The restoration and replacement of windows at Pratt Institute’s historic Machinery & Engineering Building carefully balances preservation with long-term performance. The project focuses on upgrading deteriorated window systems while respecting the architectural character and historic detailing of this significant campus building. New assemblies were thoughtfully selected to improve thermal performance, weather resistance, and occupant comfort, while maintaining the original proportions and visual integrity of the façade. Working within the context of a landmarked academic environment, the design team coordinated solutions that support both preservation goals and modern building performance standards. This effort contributes to the continued stewardship of one of Pratt’s important historic structures while enhancing its functionality for future generations.
