Pratt Institute engaged Matiz Architecture & Design to restore and replace the historic windows of the Machinery & Engineering Building, enhancing energy performance while preserving the architectural character of this prominent campus landmark. Located in Brooklyn's Clinton Hill neighborhood, the project required careful coordination of historic preservation, sustainability, constructability, and integration with existing building systems.
MAD developed a comprehensive replacement strategy that standardized window and louver assemblies to streamline installation and maintain a cohesive exterior appearance. Working closely with Pratt Facilities and the contractor, construction was carefully phased around the academic calendar to minimize disruption to campus operations. In addition to the new window systems, the team evaluated previously replaced assemblies to ensure consistency in performance, detailing, and aesthetics across the building envelope.
