Third North Student Comm.

In conjunction with the architecture team, MAD Studio’s work focused on encouraging active and passive student uses for the Commons at the 75 Third Ave Residential Hall. A vertically striped theme, using transparent and opaque treatments, provides visual separation from surrounding student functions. The design highlights the identity of each open space while directing people to the lounges, theater and study rooms.

Environmental graphics assist in defining the function of each space with symbolic elements at the Dance Studio, Laundry Rooms and Residential Life Offices. In the Study Rooms, we developed the stripe theme to include nods to the iconic eyewear of renowned NYU alumni: Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese and Lady Gaga. Our design team also developed a Wayfinding system that guides circulation throughout the triangular space.
